Searchers Monday evening found the body of a 6-year-old Reno boy who fell into Lake Lahontan on Saturday, said Jeff Page, Lyon County director of emergency services.

They discovered the body of Apollo Fuller at Lahontan State Park's Beach 3, the same area where he reportedly fell from a trampoline into the lake, Undersherrif Joe Sanford said.

A boater or camper first noticed the body in the water and notified a parks department official, Sanford said.

Next of kin have been notified.

Authorities searched the lake for two days looking for Apollo, Lyon County sheriff's Lt. Robin Hall said.

In a scaled-back search on Monday, boats from the Nevada Divisions of Wildlife and State Parks patrolled the water near the shore starting at dawn, looking for any sign of the boy reported missing about 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Hall said.

Over the weekend, about 60 officers from various agencies and at least one dog searched the shore and woods and distributed fliers with a photo and information about the boy.

A sheriff's official said 1,300 vehicles were stopped and searched.

Authorities at first handled the boy's disappearance as a missing person's case.

They began searching the murky lake Sunday after a family member reported about 11 a.m. the boy had disappeared while jumping on a water trampoline, Hall said.

Officers summoned divers and a sonar boat and focused on a water search.

The search was limited to the shoreline starting Sunday night, Hall said.

"It's devastating," he said. "Obviously, you go out to the lake to have a fun weekend, and something like this happens."

Steven Silva, senior law enforcement specialist for Nevada state parks, said the drowning was the first in a state park this year.

"Statistically, we have, in all of our parks that have water, we might average one or less a year," Silva said. "We go some years where we don't have any drowning incidents at all and then in other years, we might have two or three."

Children and adults can stay safe in the water by not entering the water alone, being aware of the cold water conditions and noting water depth and hazards, Reno Public Safety Spokesman Steve Frady said.

The most important thing is to keep children supervised at al times, Silva said.

"That's really the best thing that people can do," he said. "Kids are just so mobile, and they can disappear on you so fast so you just need to keep a close watch on your children when you're near the water."

Authorities in Elmwood Park yesterday identified one of two bodies pulled from the Passaic River on Sunday as that of Beverly T. Spano, the Waldwick mother of three who was reported missing last week.

Meanwhile, authorities continued their effort to identify a girl of about 2 whose body was found in the river Sunday afternoon downstream in Clifton.

Elmwood Park police used dental records to confirm the adult body as that of Spano, 44, a public relations professional whose disappearance

triggered a massive search last week.

Spano had been reported missing Thursday, after a relative found her gold Ford Windstar minivan parked at the Elmwood Park marina at River Drive and Washington Avenue. The van was unlocked and Spano's purse and car keys were inside.

Divers spent the better part of two days in the area where the van was found before the search was called off Friday night. Two boaters from Clifton found her body around 6 p.m. Sunday, about a mile south of where her van was parked.

Downriver in Clifton, meanwhile, two fishermen made a similarly grim discovery hours before Spano's body was found. The men told police they found the body of a young girl, stuffed in a plastic bag, floating at the water's edge near the Ackerman Avenue bridge.

Clifton police Detective Lt. Richard Berdnick said officers were following several leads. He declined to provide further information, saying that doing so would risk compromising a joint investigation between city police and the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office.

Elmwood Park authorities spent yesterday trying to determine how Spano ended up in the river.
She worked in media relations in New York for UBS, the financial services company, from 1991 to 1993 before leaving the firm to start her own public relations company, UBS spokesman Kris Kagel said. After Spano left the company, she continued to work for UBS on a freelance basis, Kagel said.

Spano had three children -- two of elementary-school age and a teenager. Her husband told police he last saw his wife on Thursday, and that she

had behaved normally that day, said Elmwood Park Police Chief Donald Ingrasselino.

Ingrasselino said authorities do not think foul play was involved.

From time to time, I find myself thinking about an Irving toddler who apparently disappeared while playing with his older brother in Irving's Lively Park on June 21, 2006-- Elian Majano, then two years old. Today, close to the third anniversary of his disappearance, he should be five years old.

His father handed the photo (pictured at the right) of brothers Alexis, then 4, and Elian to me me when I visited the family's cramped apartment in South Irving--an aging complex occupied by many immigrant families. (Elian's parents are from El Salvador). Now this little boy has joined a long list of other missing children from throughout the country, his case featured on America's Most Wanted online.

I have a lot of questions. But largest in my mind is this one: Where is Elian? Have people in Irving forgotten about him or is he still on your mind? Is the park safer today?

Irving police searched the sewage system after his mother wondered if he had fallen into a sinkhole that was caused by a broken pipeline. In a custody case over Alexis, a detective testified that Alexis told him that "Elian fell." Police even searched a wastewater plant. In a 2007 New York Times story, a reporter pointed out similar challenges with aging pipelines else where in the country (Irving officials checked the other pipelines after what happened). But an Amber Alert was also issued, since it was believed Elian may have been kidnapped. Again, I wondered whether a stranger could have taken him or somebody who knew the family?

Soon Dallas attorney Raul Loya got involved with the investigation and custody case. As you may recall Child Protective Services took Alexis initially because of concerns that the childrens' mother Yancy Majano had not been supervising her children properly the day Elian disappeared, since she was apparently in a truck a young man (who was not her husband) as her children played. Testimony at times resembled a telenovela. The fact that the parents only spoke Spanish, made things even more complicated.

The last time I reported on this story, Alexis was in the custody of a family member and seeing his father, Gilberto Bercian. According to Irving police spokesman David Tull, the "status of the case remains as unsolved." What have you heard about this case?

MOLINE, Illinois - After hours of searching, police have canceled an AMBER alert for two Moline children.

WQAD News 8 and WQAD.com have confirmed Judith Sierra and Delfino Sierra, Jr. have been found safe in Sterling, Illinois. Their mother is heading to Sterling to reunite with her children.

Moline police issued the alert Sunday morning after the children's father Delfino Sierra, Sr. came to their home in Moline and took the children at knifepoint. The children were in the care of a teenage nephew at the time.

Police continue to search for Sierra, Sr. He is described as a Hispanic male, 36 years old, 5'8", 170 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, and medium complexion. He also goes by the aliases Jesus M. Carrion and Jesus M. Melendez. He is the father of the children, but is not married to their mother.

EARLIER STORY: Two Moline children were taken at knifepoint by their father from their mother's home around 3:40am Sunday.

A 13-year old nephew was babysitting the two children at the time. The missing children are Judith G. Sierra and Delfino Sierra, Junior. Judith is 18 months old and described as a white female, 2'6", 22 pounds, with black hair and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a pink princess t-shirt. Delfino Serra, Junior is a white 4 month old.

Their father, Delfino Sierra, Senior is described as a Hispanic male, 36 years old, 5'8", 170 pounds, black hair, brown eyes, and medium complexion. He also goes by the aliases Jesus M. Carrion and Jesus M. Melendez. He is the father of the children, but is not married to their mother.

The vehicle Sierra, Sr was using was found at home where he had been staying, but he and the children remain missing. Anyone with information into the whereabouts of Judith and Delfino Sierra, Jr are asked to call the Moline police, Illinois State police, or 911.

Samos was hospitalized in stable condition, Rayner said.

The children were recovered and were said to be unharmed.

His mother lives in Long Beach, and he had contacted her earlier in the day, police said.

Samos is accused of raping his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at a home near 79th Street and Broadway, said LAPD Lt. Faryl Fletcher of the Newton Station.

Samos then took the woman, her child and a niece to a gas station at 45th Street and Avalon at 10:00 p.m. Saturday night where he attempted to carjack a 24 year old woman, said Lt. Fletcher.

When the motorist resisted the carjacking, Samos allegedly shot her in the back.

The woman is expected to survive her wounds.

Lt. Fletcher said, at some point, Samos' ex-girlfriend fled the scene with two children and picked up two of his own children before escaping.

The children were identified as Matthew Samos, 1, Jose Diaz, 5, Ariana Wade, 6, and Ashley Tathkran, 11.

Police say that the man called authorities from an undisclosed location and has asked to trade at least some of the abducted children for his ex-girlfriend.

Samos is described by officials to be a 5 foot, 11 inch tall Hispanic man weighing 220 pounds and having brown eyes and black hair tied into a ponytail.

He is said to have "multiple tattoos" and was last seen wearing a red shirt, blue shorts, and red and white tennis shoes, say police.

CHP officials say the Samos is traveling in a gold or brown colored 1991 Toyota Previa with California license plate number 5SEF614.

Police believe the car belongs to the suspect's mother.
