Missing girl is found – thanks to you

JOHANNESBURG - Missing Elske Roux was safely reunited with her family yesterday – thanks in large part to a flood of tip-offs from Citizen readers.

The Citizen yesterday reported that Elske had disappeared from the Vereeniging Technical College in the company of a young, unidentified man, and Missing Children SA say they were almost immediately flooded with SMSes, emails and offers of help.

Elske and the male suspect were eventually traced to a train station in Pretoria. Police were still questioning him about the incident last night.

Elske’s mother told Missing Children’s Elsa Tzouganatos the girl was still “very shocked”. Her family had taken her for medical tests to determine if she had been given drugs.

Missing Children SA worked closely with police and The Citizen to help find Elske, sending out flyers, e-mails and FaceBook alerts. “We wanted to make sure as many people saw her face as possible,” said Tzouganatos. “We got a lot of tip-offs from people in the Rand area, especially Pretoria and Randfontein – the two were apparently all over the show yesterday.”
